As a public service and to finally address the hundreds of demanding inquiries in my email box, here are my feelings on the Rondo Awards. By all means, make your own decisions. But these are delightful choices, to be savored by all.
But as for me….
BEST MOVIE —
Well, you can guess which one I’m NOT going vote for.
CLASSIC DVD —
Go Team Mank! A win for the ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN blu-ray may put the world one step closer to doing what the planet desperately needs… hiring Greg to do a commentary for a BLACK CAT blu-ray. Which would be amazing. I’m just sayin’.
BEST DVD COLLECTION —
I always vote for the one so large that an infant vampire could sleep in it: DARK SHADOWS!
BEST RESTORATION —
Going for CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, giving us both beautiful black & white photography and gorgeous 3D in one package.
BEST DVD EXTRA —
Making it a write-in for the extra, multi-disc pack that accompanies the DARK SHADOWS boxed set… hours and hours and hours of special features.
BEST ARTICLE (pick two, but one will win) —
‘Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection,’ by Gregory W. Mank, SCREEM #25. Mank! Mank! Mank!
‘Ladies of the Shadows,’ by David-Elijah Nahmod, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #261. A reminiscence of Dark Shadows.
